Québec Mines 2016: minister Pierre Arcand hosts key players in Québec mining sector
This year’s annual Québec Mines conference, a major hub for exchange on geoscience and mineral resources, was held from November 21 to 24. With L'Innovation en tête as its theme, the event offered a number of activities including conference sessions on minerals related to energy and high technology (i.e., lithium, graphite, vanadium and rare earths).
Pierre Arcand, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Plan Nord, took the opportunity to unveil the Plan de travail sur la restauration des sites miniers abandonnés au Québec [action plan for the restoration of abandoned mining sites in Québec], thus making public the means implemented and amounts committed by the government to meet its commitment to decrease environmental mining liabilities by 80% by March 21, 2022. The plan involves investing a total of approximately $620 million over the next six years. To view the press release, click here.
